Vico Magistretti (1920–2006) was a Milan architect and one of the founders of modern Italian design. His lamps are simple in form but ingenious in use. Eclisse, for Artemide, has a rotating inner shell that dims the light by eclipsing it, and Atollo, for Oluce, balances a hemisphere on a cone to create one of the most recognised table lamps ever made. Both are still in production. Place an Atollo on a sideboard or console, where its shape can be read from across the room.
