Modern linear suspension lights are long, slim fixtures that hang from two or more cables and spread light evenly along their length. They are the natural choice over a kitchen island, a long dining table, a boardroom table or a desk run, where a single round pendant would leave the ends in shadow. Choose a fixture about two-thirds the length of the surface below and hang it roughly 30 to 36 inches above it. Integrated LED models often offer up-and-down light and dimming.
