3. Install Your New Switches
Once you've received your switches, you can install them easily. Even if it's your first time working with electrical installation, we’ve broken down the official installation video into simple, clear step-by-step instructions so you can confidently tackle the project at home.
Take a look at the official Adorne Installation Video and our simple step-by-step guide below:
Simple Step-by-Step Guide
Tools you'll need: Flathead screwdriver, Phillips screwdriver & wire strippers.
Step 1: Turn Off Power
Cut power at the circuit breaker before doing anything. Test the switch to confirm it’s off.
Step 2: Remove the Existing Switch
Unscrew the cover and switch. Pull it out gently to expose the wiring behind it.
Step 3: Install the Adorne Metal Support Frame
Place the included metal frame over your electrical box and screw it in securely. This will support both your new device and the wall plate.
Step 4: Identify Your Wires
You’ll typically find:
-
Black (Hot): Carries current from the power source
-
White (Neutral): Returns current to complete the circuit
-
Bare Copper or Green (Ground): Safety ground wire
In a single-pole switch, you’ll usually have one hot wire and one load wire (going to the light). A dimmer may also require a neutral wire, so be sure to check your device’s label.
Step 5: Strip the Wires
Using your wire stripper, trim the insulation off the ends of each wire (usually about ½ inch). Most Legrand switches include a gauge to help you strip the correct amount.
Step 6: Connect the Wires to the Device
-
Ground: Connect the ground wire (bare copper or green) to the green terminal on the switch. Tighten the screw securely.
-
Hot: Insert the black (hot) wire into the terminal labeled "HOT" and tighten the screw.
-
Load/Neutral: Insert the white wire (if applicable) into the terminal marked “LOAD” or “NEUTRAL” based on your device.
-
For 3-way switches or dimmers, additional terminals may be labeled “Traveler.” Be sure to match wiring based on your old switch or consult the installation manual.
Optional: Use electrical tape to wrap the terminals once they’re connected for extra safety.
Step 5: Snap in the Switch or Dimmer
Line up the device with the frame and press it in until it clicks securely into place.
Step 6: Attach the Wall Plate
Align the wall plate with the frame and press until it snaps in on all sides. No screws required.
Step 7: Restore Power and Test
Flip your breaker back on. Test the switch to make sure everything is working properly, including dimming functionality if applicable.
And just like that, your Legrand switch/dimmer is installed!
