Schlitz Up, designed by Ingo Maurer in 2002, was his answer to boring downlights: just an elegant cut in the ceiling. Made of aluminium and glass fibre, the lamp is set flush into a lowered ceiling, filled and painted along with it, so all that remains is a slender, curving slit from which the light seems to escape.
Three GU10 reflector bulbs sit inside the opening, visible rather than hidden behind a diffuser, and wash the ceiling and room with light. Several slits can be combined into a rhythm across a ceiling, turning a functional downlight into a quiet architectural gesture. Special lengths are available on request.
