Samurai belongs to the MaMo Nouchies, the family of pleated paper lamps created by Dagmar Mombach with Ingo Maurer and Team in 1998. Its wide, flaring shade of hand-pleated paper rests on a slim metal frame, and two fine glass-fibre whiskers rise above it, giving the lamp the presence of a figure in armour, poised and calm.
This LED version carries a dimmable module that Ingo Maurer developed especially for the MaMo Nouchies. The light is warm and soft, hard to tell apart from conventional halogen light, and can be dimmed smoothly with a switch on the cable. Unlike the halogen version shown in the photos, the cable is visible, as with Poul Poul.
