Hot Achille, by Ingo Maurer & Team (1994, LED version 2019), reduces a lamp to a line. A co-axial cable runs taut from a ceiling anchor down to a stainless-steel weight hovering just above the floor, and the current flows through the cable itself. On it sits a small aluminium reflector with a protective glass cover, held on a curved stainless-steel tube.
The reflector slides up and down the cable over about a metre and turns a full 360 degrees, so the warm 2700K LED light can be placed exactly where it is needed. A slider on the power supply dims it continuously. Hot Achille suits rooms with ceiling heights from 200 to 350 cm.
