Flying Disc, by Ingo Maurer & Team (2016), is an extremely lightweight object for indirect light that seems to hover beneath the ceiling. A thin white disc almost two metres across hangs from only three fine wires and is meant to be installed at an angle, bringing a sense of movement to large spaces such as lobbies, atriums and restaurants.
A long, slender black rod holds a ring of high-quality LEDs below the disc, which lights it up and diffuses the glow into the room. Both the rod length and the angle of the ring can be adjusted to light the disc asymmetrically, so disc, rod and ring merge into one intriguing graphic object.
