24 Karat Blau Floor, designed by Axel Schmid in 2009/2017, is the floor lamp of the 24 Karat Blau family. Eight plates of gold leaf cast in acrylic glass are arranged around a bare bulb on a slender frame of red-lacquered rods, with a matching red cable and a pull switch at the socket.
The shades are made by hand in Japan, in a unique process that casts wafer-thin gold leaf into acrylic. Only short-wave blue light can pass through the gold, while warm yellow-gold light is reflected: the inside glows a radiant gold and the filament shimmers blue from outside. The effect also works with an LED filament bulb.
