Milan Design Week 2025 Trend Report

Milan Design Week 2025 Trend Report

Every year, our team travels to Milan for the Salone del Mobile Design show, where we spend most of our time at the Euroluce lighting exhibition exploring the latest in lighting design. Our goal is to spot new trends, discover new collections, and decide what we want to bring back to North America. This year, the creativity and innovation on display was truly inspiring.

We visited the beautiful booths of designer lighting brands such asAXO Light, CVL, Ferroluce, FoscariniItalamp, Ingo Maurer, Karman, Luceplan, Oluce, Slamp, & more.

Now without further ado, here are the top lighting trends our team discovered at Milan Design Week 2025!

Trend 1: Light as an Interactive Experience

Lighting is becoming more than just illumination: it’s now an interactive experience. With built-in dimming features, today’s fixtures let you shift the mood with a simple touch. There are sculptural pieces that twist, wall lights that respond to movement, and movable spotlights that blur the line between function and play, turning lighting into an act of discovery. Many fixtures can bend and transform, manipulating light in creative and unexpected ways. As a result, designers are now creating lighting that surprises and invites people to engage with it, transforming light into a personal and unique experience.

Trend 2: Accent Lighting on Coloured and Patterned Walls

Accent lighting on textured and patterned walls makes a bold statement, creating striking visuals that play with depth, shadow, and materiality. Pairing sculptural lighting with bold surfaces brings walls to life, adding movement and dimension. From playful geometric clusters to soft circular glows, these fixtures turn walls into functional art. Each piece interacts uniquely with its surface, casting shadows that enhance the wall’s texture and mood. If you want to try out this trend but a subtle approach is more your thing, opt for a standout fixture against a clean, neutral wall to let the lighting shine or choose simpler, understated lighting, to complement a pattern. Accent lighting is all about finding the right balance between light and texture to transform any space into an illuminated experience.

Trend 3: Red and Burgundy Tones

Red and burgundy have always been stylish, but over the past few years they’ve made a comeback on runways and in streetwear, and now in lighting and home design! While many brands still showcased classic palettes like white, black, and gray, they have now introduced bold red and burgundy options into their collections. We noticed this across multiple types of lighting, some of which would leave a more permanent red statement. However, if you aren't ready to fully commit to red or burgundy in your space, table and floor lamps are great options to test out this trend without going all in.

Trend 4: Lighting Integrated into Nature

Lighting is no longer just functional; it's becoming a part of the landscape. At Euroluce, we saw a growing trend of outdoor lighting that blends seamlessly with nature. From the sleek precision of track lighting to sculptural elements that double as decor, these sculptures are designed to enhance their surroundings, not overpower them. Whether its interesting shapes nestled amongst garden beds or lighting that looks like flowers themselves, every detail is designed to feel natural and blend into the environment.
