Modern multi-light pendants gather several shades or globes on one canopy, hanging at staggered or matching heights to create a single sculptural cluster. They fill tall stairwells and double-height foyers, and anchor a round dining table or a reading corner with a softer look than a formal chandelier. For a stairwell, choose a cluster whose drop covers at least a third of the open height; over a table, keep the lowest shade about 30 to 36 inches above the surface.
