Rugs anchor a room, defining a seating or dining area while adding warmth, softness and colour underfoot. They suit living rooms, bedrooms and dining rooms, and a runner finishes a hallway or narrow entry. In a living room, choose a rug large enough for at least the front legs of the sofa and chairs to rest on it; under a dining table, let it extend about 24 inches past each edge so chairs stay on the rug when pulled out.
